The MWDR Adoption Process

MidWest Dachshund Rescue partners with shelters, vets and an incredible community of advocates to rescue Dachshunds in need.

We place dogs with loving families throughout the MidWest. Will you be the next lucky home to rescue a Doxie?

See if you Meet Adoption Guidelines

At Midwest Dachshund Rescue one of our goals is to match dogs to the best forever home possible. Once an application is complete, there is a lot of time and effort putting into checking references and getting home visits scheduled and completed and learning about our adopters.

We understand that our application is somewhat lengthy. With all of that in mind, please review these guidelines before completing an application.

Adoption Application

Once a person/family decides they are ready to adopt a dachshund/mix from us, they complete the online application. If there is a specific dog they are interested in, it can be put on the application, otherwise we will help them find the right dog for their lifestyles.

Contacts are Made

Once the application is completed a Representative will call to explain the organization and how things work. References are contacted and a Home Visit is scheduled (all family members must be home). It may take a few weeks for someone to contact you back.

Talk with Foster Home

Ask any questions about the dog you are interested in. If it is agreed that the dog may be a good fit for your family, a meet and greet is scheduled.

Family grows and Doxie is Adopted.

If all goes well with the meet and greet, the adoption contract is completed and the two week trial period begins. Once the trial period is over, the adoption process is complete.
