Fostering Through MWDR
Foster Image

MWDR receives calls every week about abandoned or surrendered Dachshunds from shelters, vets, and families.

There are many reasons Dachshunds become available: owners fall ill or are unable to care for them, families come under financial hardship, or owners situation in life has changed. MWDR dogs are simply victims of unfortunate circumstances.

If there are any special considerations for a particular dog, we disclose them to foster families and allow them to determine whether or not the special needs will fit with their family and lifestyle.

Join us in fostering Dachshunds, and you'll quickly learn why so many families in your community are falling in love with the process of rescuing and rehoming Doxies.

The Foster Process

From first contact to forever home, every action we take in the foster process is based on the best interests of the dogs we serve.

1
Dog is surrendered or rescued

MWDR gets dogs from shelters, breeders, puppy mill rescuers, direct owner surrenders, and more.

Transport volunteers are a vital part of saving dogs by getting them to their foster homes and to/from visit to the vet.

Foster homes are advised of any known health or behavioral issues prior to a dog's arrival.  We match foster homes to dogs similar to matching forever homes to them.

Foster homes are asked to treat their foster dogs as they would their own, while exposing them to as many experiences as possible so the best permanent home match can be made.  How are they with cats, other dogs, children, etc.

Any identified health or behavioral issues are addressed.  MWDR is responsible for all vetting costs while dogs are in foster care.
